Windows Media Player keeps prompting you do download a
new version and you do not want to upgrade.
 | For WMP 7.x and 8.x:
Start -> Run
Type regedt32 for Windows 2k or Windows XP. regedit for
Windows 98/ME
Adavanced: [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\WindowsMediaPlayer]. |
 | Expand HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE |
 | Expand SOFTWARE |
 | Expand Policies |
 | Expand Microsoft |
 | Expand WindowsMediaPlayer |
 | If WindowsMediaPlayer is not there, right click on Microsoft key (folder)
select New, key then name it WindowsMediaPlayer Type it as is with caps. |
 | Make sure WIndowsMediaPlayer key is selected |
 | In the right pane, right-click and select, New then DWORD value called
DisableAutoUpdate Again type as is with caps. |
 | Double click on the new DWORD entry you created and set the Value Data to
1. |
 | Restart Windows Media Player for the changes to take effect. |
Windows Media Player 6.x
 | Start -> Run
